Born in Gaul
First emperor to be born outside Italy
Had a limp and was slightly deaf because of a terrible sickness as a child
Emperor Caligula slaughtered his entire family except him
Was named emperor by a praetorian guard after Emperor Caligula's assassination
Was an ambitious builder and efficient administrator as emperor
Attempted to remodel the Senate into an efficient administratory body
even encouraged the Senate to voice their negative opinions about bills under debate
Constructed roads, aqueducts, and canals across the empire
Built tow major aqueducts that are still standing today; the Aqua Claudia and Anio Novus
also restored the Aqua Virgo aqueduct
Conquered Britain, Thrace, Noricum, Pamphylia, Lycia, and Jodecea
Died in 54 AD and his great-nephew Nero suceeded him
